Reclaimed wood from a disassembled låve (Norwegian for barn), painted in traditional red, over discarded granite blocks, and the overlapping assembling technique itself anchor the design in local tradition - lending permanence and authenticity, not temporary decoration. The space is intentionally flexible: users define its use, shaping it over time to reflect their needs and identities. More than physical design, it’s a framework for collective ownership and a model for urban renewal that fosters belonging, not displacement. bayarri architecture https://qbayarri.com/N2102 N2102 Residential 2021 - ongoing Oslo (NO) The terrain is very steep and the house is situated following the contours of the hillside and neighbouring houses. The result is a one-story construction facing the urban side of the site while a three-story building facing natural landscape, offering stunning views of the Oslo fjord. There are two generic rooms on each floor, and each of the three floors has the same layout. Rooms without name which functions can be changed and redesigned to meet the needs, preferences and evolution of the residents.The neutrality on the plan layout is reflected and enhaced by the façades. Its shape and materials make an eye-catching sight for travellers on the road. The building follows a strict constructive grid of 975mm defined by the standard dimensions of the locally produced bricks – the clay is excavated and baked on site. All the walls are built with solid bricks that improve comfort by increassing thermal mass. Ventilation is enhanced with the introduction of patios and openings in multiple directions. The house is located outside the village of Xixona high up in the mountains. The original house was built in the ‘80s by the former owners, a folkloric interpretation of a chalet with an arched porch. An annex, a garage and a storage room were added in the early ‘90s. Despite the building’s poor thermal performance and the low quality of the existing structure, a new-build was not seen as a viable option due to the embodied energy from demolition, transportation and re-building. Rather, the renovation was used as an opportunity to restructure the existing building, maximising both light and solar energy gain. This was achieved by adding insulation and the construction of an internal brick wall, acting as thermal storage. The surrounding clay roofs inspired the choice of materials, with tiles connecting the outside with the interior. The main space is organized around a wooden core containing storage and parts of the kitchen appliances. The new layout enhances both cross-ventilation and access to daylight. bayarri architecture https://qbayarri.com/N1904 N1904 Residential 2019 Buenos Aires (AR) Prototype for an incremental social housing in the neighbourhood of La Matanza in Buenos Aires. Designed and built in collaboration with Architects Without Borders Norway (AUG) and the Scarcity and Creativity Studio of the School of Architecture of Oslo. The flexibility of the design allows the first-built prototype to be used as a care and support center for women victims of domestic violence. It has capacity for up to 12 hosts and 3 visiting professionals.&nbsp;This prototype is one of the 98 houses scheduled in the masterplan for the 30 000m2 plot developed by AUG.
